Hike Haleakala Trail AheadA Unique Opportunity

Hiking is on a whole new level with this Haleakala hiking experience.  Sure, you have hiked the Appalachian Trail, the PCT, or maybe even Everest, but all of those still look like places we have seen or been before.  The crater on the top of Haleakala is like nothing you have ever seen before.  Many argue that it looks like terrain you might find on Mars and because of that, hiking through the Haleakala Crater is one of the most unique experiences you can have on Earth.  This guided hiking tour will bring a maximum of 7 people along two different trails inside of Haleakala National Park to explore the remains of this 1 million-year-old volcano.  Guides add their insights and knowledge about the area as well as the cultural significance that Haleakala has played throughout history.

Haleakala

Haleakala means “house of the sun” in Hawaiian and earns its name by hosting some of the most incredible sunrises and sunsets you will ever see.  With over 30 miles of trails around the summit of Haleakala, there is so much to explore including some of the most rare birds and plants in the world.   The ‘Ahinahina, or silversword, is one of these plants, found only on Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa on the Big Island, and Haleakala Crater on Maui.  This beautiful silver-leaved shrub is an amazing site to see especially when it blooms, which only happens once in its lifetime.  You will also find cinder cones, lava tubes, and some truly impressive lava formations that can only be appreciated by seeing them up close.

What’s Included

Meet your guide at the park & ride location in Kahului.  From there they will transport you 10,023 feet (3055 meters) up to the summit of Haleakala. A light breakfast will be served as well as snacks. Jackets, backpacks, snacks, and water are all provided as well. You will hike 2 different trails in Haleakala National Park enjoying stunning views while expert guides share their knowledge about the surrounding area. Lunch will be served as well and transportation back to your vehicle will conclude the journey.

Recommend you? YES! That was an entirely unique and highly memorable day I won’t be forgetting. We’ve been to Maui numerous times over the last decade, and this was far superior to visiting the summit of Halekala on a tour without hiking. We went to 2 different trails and escaped all the people. True peace! I’ll book you again when we come next. Thank you so much!

I didn’t expect to be getting much exercise while on vacation, but I’m glad I did this hike. They took us to some beautiful views. It was the perfect way to work off our jetlag and prepared for sitting at the pool for the rest of our stay.

This was the perfect thing to do with my group. We came together on vacation and are all most likely a little more adventurous than most tourists. We wanted to see what others don’t see while getting some exercise. These hikes make the trip for me! I’ll be back.

The scenery is incredible with vast landscapes and colorful flora (didn’t expect that on moon surfaces) and native birds. The weather during our hike was perfect: sunny but not too hot. Again, I thought it would be colder.

The hikse themselves are absolutely spectacular, with breathtaking views all around you and a variety of terrain, from flat paths to rocky inclines. The overall difficulty level was moderate to strenuous, but there were plenty of stops along the way for rest and refueling, which made it manageable. My husband had a little more trouble with it than I did, so I think we’d do a mellower one next time.

This hike I highly recommend to anyone looking for an adventure on Maui. From start to finish, the Haleakala hike had stunning scenery and challenging terrain in equal measure. IGreat way to immerse yourself in nature.
