THE BOAT
This 65-foot triple-decker catamaran is as spacious as Maui tour boats get! Grab a seat in the shady main cabin, or make your way up to the third deck to soak up the sunshine and panoramic views. This roomy boat boasts 4,000 square feet of comfortable seating, so sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride! What’s more, the vessel’s double hulls make for an extra stable trip, so don’t worry if you don’t have your sea legs quite yet.
THE TOUR
This excursion departs out of Maalaea Harbor – the most central harbor on the island – and heads out into Maui’s coastal waters for a two-hour tour. Whales are abundant on Maui during the winter months, and it’s only a matter of time before you see one (or two… or twelve…). An onboard naturalist narrates the tour, providing eye-opening commentary about humpback whale behavior. Each of the boat’s three decks has speakers, so you can hear the narration no matter where you are onboard.
THE AMENITIES
Spacious seating and naturalist narration aside, the vessel boasts a well-stocked snack counter and bar. Adults can elevate the fun and sip on tangy mai tais or tasty beers. But the most awe-inspiring amenity is found below the deck, where the glass bottom viewing room is located. When the boat comes to a stop, descend below deck to peer into the deep. If you’re lucky, you might get an underwater view of a whale beneath the boat – and an everlasting memory to boot.

I highly recommend this Maui whale watch tour if you’re looking for a once in a lifetime experience that won’t break the bank. We got 6 on this raft and there were others on the raft, but it never felt crowded. I’ve been on a whale watch in Maui before and it was on a big boat with too many heads in the way. I could always see the whales cuase it was a raft.

THIS WAS INCREDIBLE!!! All around us were whales up close. The captain pointed out each pod as we spotted them using the clock method and teaching us all about their behaviors and habits. I got some amazing photos but my videos didn’t come out great. I kept missing the beginning of breaches. That was the only downer.

Last week I went on an amazing whale watch in Maui, and I was absolutely blown away by how big these things are. We did this Most Affordable Maui Whale Watch tour (on the Calypso), which was the best price I found. We stayed in Kihei at a condo so Maalaea wasn’t too far. I would recommend this for sure!
