Location

Island Breeze Feast

This Kona luau is located adjacent to the Ahuʻena Heiau, traditionally known as Kamakahonu, and is often called the most historic site in Hawaii. Kamakahonu was home to Kamehameha the Great in his final years, and it was here where he eventually died. Kamakahonu was also the location of the great feast to celebrate the overthrow of the kapu system, a turning point in Hawaiian history. Additionally, Kamakahonu Bay was where the first missionaries came ashore in 1820. A portion of all Island Breeze luau ticket sales goes to help preserve this historic site.

Activities and Show

Enjoy a warm welcome and an array of activities upon arrival at our favorite Big Island Luau, such as meeting the performers and learning hula. After getting settled, witness the imu ceremony, where the roasted pig is uncovered from the underground stone oven. Shortly after, watch as the royal court arrives by outrigger canoe. Dinner is complimented by live music, followed by an outstanding Polynesian show.

Luau Dinner

Feast on an impressive buffet dinner featuring both traditional and modern Hawaiian dishes. Traditional dishes include kalua pig, Lomi-Lomi salmon, poi, island fish, sweet potatoes, and poke. Modern Hawaiian favorites such as teriyaki beef, BBQ chicken, macaroni salad, white rice, and more are also available. Dessert includes haupia, banana coconut bread, cake, and more. An open bar and Kona coffee and tea are available.

The food was delicious, the entertainment lively, and the fire knife dance capped off the show in dramatic fashion. I was mesmerized and will recommend the Island Breeze luau to friends that visit.

  2. Heather Murphy

In a flowery sentence, I would describe our luau as evoking the sense of Aloha through traditional Hawaiian culture with a modern twist. If it hadn’t rained for 5-10 minutes, it would have been a perfect evening.

  3. Jessie Lofton

I was worried I wouldn’t see the stage from our seats, but the tables were spaced out well. We had a great time, and really just went for the show. but the food was very good too.

  4. Paul

You shared our legends with us. But the skill your firedancers have are where legend continues! It was so much fun for us to watch them. I don’t know how they don’t burn themselves. My daughters will never forget this part of our Hawaii vacation, and neither will I!

  5. Peggy Sandberg

I was surprise at how much my family liked the food. We’re not the most adventurous, but we took to it like locals! I would do this again.

  6. Jake B.

The location and the history made this truly memorable for my wife and I. We had no idea how important this area was until we went. The staff were all very accommodating and kind, something I was hoping for but you never know. The dancers grace, the singers and musicians talent and warmth. UH! So much good about this luau. I will recommend the Island Breeze to anyone I know coming out to your Big Island.
