Things to do on Lanai
About Lanai Island
Located only 9 miles from The Valley Isle, Maui’s neighbor island of Lana’i is a world away from the crowds and tourist sites of typical Hawaiian paradise. With a population of only around 3,000 residents, Lana’i offers an abundance of exciting outdoor activities, barren beaches, and untouched natural beauty.
Ease of Travel
From Maui, travelers can easily board a spacious ferry to Manele Harbor, conveniently located just a few minutes walk from Lanai’s famed Sweetheart Rock, Hulopoe Bay and the newly revamped Four Seasons Resort. Departing several times per day, the ferry ride lasts approximately one hour and in winter months, often doubles as a whale watching tour as humpback whales come to mate and give birth in the warm, shallow waters.
Off the Beaten Path
In addition to not having a single traffic light, the island of Lana’i offers many off the beaten path excursions for those who want to experience the lesser visited side of paradise. Rent a 4 wheel drive and head to Keahiakawelo, also known as Garden of the Gods, or the remote, 2 mile stretch of beach known as Polihua. Alternately, guests can partake in activities like archery, horseback riding, or UTV tours.
Peace & Quiet
Whether you choose to relax on the white sand under swaying palms, visit the Lanai petroglyphs or sit and admire the solitude while gazing out at the Pacific, there’s plenty of peace and quiet on The Pineapple Isle.
