For travelers looking to explore the ocean during their time on Maui, we highly recommend an exciting snorkeling trip with Redline Rafting. Maxing out at 24 guests, this intimate experience takes place aboard one of their customized rafts! While not recommended for anyone with back or neck problems due to its faster speeds (and therefore bumpier ride), it’s an absolute blast for guests eager to see the beauty of Maui from above and below the ocean’s surface. Tours include snorkeling at 3 to 4 of South Maui’s best spots, as well as information about Hawaii’s history, geology, and marine life, and breakfast and lunch.

2-Hour Molokini Tour

snorkeling fish turtle

One of the only boat tours to depart from South Maui’s Kihei Boat Ramp, this tour is ideal for travelers seeking a true adventure on the ocean! After receiving a wetsuit and being welcomed with a hot cup of coffee, guests will hop aboard one of Redline’s 35-foot customized rafts. With a maximum of 24 guests, this Molokini rafting tour allows for a more intimate experience, as well as faster cruising speeds to some of the most scenic areas and best snorkeling areas along South Maui’s coastline.

Guides are all very friendly and experienced and love to share their knowledge of Hawaii’s history, geology, and facts about the local marine life and reef, as well as answer any questions you may have. After a quick ride to Molokini Crater, you’ll be given breakfast and a quick overview of the rules and safety standards before jumping in for an excellent snorkeling experience inside the Crater walls! Best of all, Redline Rafting also offers a unique snorkeling experience along Molokini Crater’s back wall, which is typically only frequented by advanced divers. Ride ‘the elevator’ and see a whole new side of Maui’s most popular snorkeling destination before cruising south to Maui’s stunning Forbidden Coastline, an area noted for its population of resting Hawaiian Spinner Dolphins and dramatic lava formations.

A refreshing lunch is served aboard the raft at the last Maui snorkeling spot of the day, Makena’s famed Turtle Town, where you’ll have the opportunity to snorkel alongside Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles and other tropical fish species. This activity is perfect for groups of friends, couples, and adventurous families and offers a less-crowded, personalized snorkeling experience of Maui.

I highly recommend doing the 2-hour quick trip. No need to wake up crazy early, you get to snorkel for long enough, and you’re back without taking up the whole day! Once we arrived at Molokini, we got to anchor and jump right off our raft into the clear waters. Clear, as in amazing visibility. We were immediately surrounded by a variety of fish. Exploring closer to the walls of Molokini and we saw even more fish and eels!

  2. Dan Cooper

Snorkeling around Molokini can be an intense activity due to currents, but our tour guides gave us thorough instructions on how to navigate them safely. Basically, we needed to stick within a specific region of the inside of the crater. We also checked out the backside of Molokini, though i felt a little sea sick there.

As soon as we arrived at the crater we set off exploring. The water was still a bit chilly in the morning hours, but as clear as ever. The early hour meant we pretty much had the place to ourselves too! While we were free to explore, we stuck by our captain who joined us as we snorkeled (can you say dream job?!). He was extremely knowledgeable, identifying different types of fish and corals, and even pointed out an octopus that would have otherwise gone unnoticed. The personal education really brought the experience to the next level, and despite having lived on Maui all my life, I came away having learned something new.

As some of the bigger tour boats started filtering in and the crater started filling up with people, we made our way back to the boat. We had had more than our fill of Molokini, and we still had 15 minutes left to sunbathe on the boat. 5 stars!

  4. Caroline Braman

Your new captain was being trained (I think captain, or maybe just crew) so we had 3 of your people on the boat helping us. Not sure if that’s normal or not, but we were grateful to have the extra help. My husband.

We opted for your quick trip. It was perfect since we had other things planned throughout the day. We got it knocked off our list! Thanks again for your professionalism and fun!

I SAW TURTLES!!!!!!!!! One of them came right up to me at the second location off the rocks! It was so cute. I think if I wasn’t already underwater the turtle would have seen me crying. It was a wonderful experience. We connected. I’m looking at getting a tattoo with him on my arm. A tribute to ome of the more elegant creatures I’ve encountered in this world.

Maui is special for the super friendly people!
I decided to land there for President’s day weekend hoping to find a hostel but everything was booked!
This ended up being the best ever! I met 3 true ALOHA locals who not only hosted me but befriended me as one of their gang!
Oh the good memories! A day doing the whole loop of the road to Hana and up country Maui, this snorkeling adventure at Molokini Crater, fine dining in Lahaina, all the gorgeous beaches in South Maui. even some skinny dipping in Little beach! Too difficult to pick just one!
I’m already counting my days to go back to Maui Paradise!

My favorite trip on Maui! I loved how we went over the shallow long side area of Molokini. The reef was so vibrant thanks to the sun and shallow reef. The crew was great too. Enjoyed checking out the back wall too!
