WAITA RESERVOIR
The Waita Reservoir is one of Kauai’s most unique destinations. Tucked on a patch of private property between the sleepy town of Koloa and the Hoary Head Mountain Range, the Waita Reservoir is one of the state’s largest inland bodies of freshwater. At 425 acres, the reservoir resembles a large lake. But it’s not the incredible location or stellar views that draw visitors to Waita’s shores— it’s the fish. Waita’s waters are packed with tilapia, largemouth bass, and peacock bass. In fact, the reservoir is one of the few places in the United States where you can fish for peacock bass!
THE EXPERIENCE
This four-hour excursion takes you to the “sweet spots” on the Waita Reservoir for a day full of sightseeing and catch-and-release fishing. Groups of three or more will climb aboard a Sun Tracker Pontoon, while parties of two or fewer will fit comfortably in a smaller vessel. You’ll be accompanied by a knowledgeable guide who will blow your mind with facts about Kauai, the history of the Waita, and tips and tricks for fishing in the reservoir. Don’t worry about rough water: the reservoir isn’t big or deep enough to get too choppy. Better yet, thanks to the reservoir’s private location, you’ll have the water almost all to yourself.
WHAT TO BRING
All fishing equipment and tackle are provided on this tour. Your guide will also supply water and juice. Bring along a towel, snacks, water-friendly close-toed shoes, and a windbreaker for windy days. Since you’ll be spending time under the Kauaian sun, a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen are musts on this excursion. Kids older than five are welcome aboard with an accompanying adult.
